Editorial policy

How SaasBuzz reports, how our best-software lists are built, and exactly what a Sponsored label means.

Independent reporting on the business of software. This page states how we work and where money enters the picture, in plain language.

Who writes this

Every article carries a named byline that links to the reporter's full archive. Where a piece is written by staff without an individual byline, it is attributed to SaasBuzz. We do not publish anonymous copy.

How best-software lists are built

Our /best comparisons exist to help someone choose a tool. Each list states its own methodology — what we tested, over what period, and what we ignored.

Vendors can pay for position on these pages. When they do:

  • The row carries a visible Sponsored label, immediately next to the vendor name, at every screen size. It is readable text, not a tooltip, not a colour, not an icon.
  • The page carries a disclosure line above the fold saying that some placements are paid.
  • The outbound link is marked rel="sponsored nofollow", so search engines are told the same thing you are.
  • When a paid slot's flight window ends, the row does not quietly keep its rank with the label removed. It is treated as unpaid and moves to the end of the list.

Paid placement buys position. It does not buy a favourable write-up, and it does not remove a competitor. Pros and cons are ours.

Some outbound links earn us a commission whether or not the placement was paid. Those are marked rel="nofollow". Commission never affects a ranking, and we are not told about conversions at the article level.

Corrections

We correct errors and say so. Substantive corrections are noted in the article with the date. If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it.

What we do not do

  • We do not accept payment to write, kill, or amend a news story.
  • We do not let a vendor review coverage before publication.
  • We do not publish sponsored content that is styled to read as reporting.
